Campus Ministries Team Positions
by Kevin Kibble, SAU Associate Chaplain
The Campus Ministries Department of Southern Adventist University is comprised of four full-time employees - the Chaplain, Associate Chaplain, Student Missions Coordinator/Office Manager and Receptionist. The Chaplain is responsible for all administrative activities, programs and services. The Associate Chaplain specializes in pastoral care of the students at SAU. The SM Coordinator/Office Manager provides leadership, training and support for the SAU student missionaries around the world. This position is also responsible for the clerical needs of the department with support from the full-time receptionist. Every year a graduate is selected to serve as an Assistant Chaplain. This is an eleven-month contract beginning July 1. The Assistant Chaplain works with the Chaplain to plan and execute all regular programming in Campus Ministries during the school year. This list includes Vespers, InTents Revival Week, Student Week of Prayer, as well as the annual Lawn Concert and Ministries expo. The Assistant Chaplain is selected for their ability to operate effectively with students of SAU and leadership potential in youth ministries and evangelism. Along with this professional team are eight student positions. These positions begin August 17 and continue until May 1. These eight leadership positions are: - InReach Director,
- OutReach Director,
- Wellness Director,
- Small Groups Coordinator,
- Media Coordinator,
- Student Missions Club President
- Student Receptionist.
These students assemble a supporting cast of volunteers to accomplish the goals set before them. They are expected to be enthusiastic Christian role models, positive contributors to the mission of SAU and the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and maintain acceptable levels of academic performance. The CM Student Leaders are required to spend 12 hours per week in Campus Ministries service. The majority of these hours are to be spent in the CM office suite to be available to the students of SAU. The CM student leaders are typically paid in the range of $6.50 - $8.50 per hour based on their academic standing and service history. It is recommended that these students avoid additional employment so they will be able to maintain effective academic success and stellar leadership in Campus Ministries. The Campus Ministries student leaders volunteer their services during Sabbath hours. As such, they are not paid for their leadership activity during Sabbath hours.
